What's the best place to buy Aikido gear from?

And how much do they typically cost? I%26#039;m about to take a college beginner%26#039;s Aikido course and I want to make sure I shop from the right place (without getting ripped off) to get my uniforms and everything.|||For me, I get cheap gis and keep them in rotation. They get ripped sooner or later and its just cheaper to replace them. I like the karate style gis rather than judo because they are thinner and this cooler.

Personally, it really doesn%26#039;t matter where I get them - there are a million places on line, but tiger direct has some decent, low cost stuff.

When it comes to hakama, that%26#039;s a different story. They can cost incredulous amounts of money, but don%26#039;t have to. I don%26#039;t know if you are allowed or required to wear one or not in your dojo. Each school has their own %26#039;rule%26#039; when it comes to hakama..... but.......

I%26#039;d recommend http://bujindesign.com. Its a company run out of Boulder CO by Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan, sempai of Mitsugi Saotome Shihan (I%26#039;m just about absolutly sure on that, but I won%26#039;t state it as fact, because that%26#039;s for Saotome Shihan to decide and all I can go on is what I see, which certainly isn%26#039;t everything) That said, he%26#039;s been around for a while and knows what%26#039;s what. They have great hakama in my opinion. Custom order too so you know it will fit. They may seem expensive, but they are by far the best value for the dollar. I%26#039;ve had mine for 4 years now and it fits perfectly, doesn%26#039;t come loose during class and was way better than paying $500.00 dollars.

Funny story - one of the senior students, also an instructor at my dojo kept telling me I was naked on the mat because I didn%26#039;t have my hakama yet. I told her I would have one once I passed my next test. She kept telling my I was naked for months. Running joke for the noon class for a while. So I pass my test and call to place my order. I was talking to a some gentleman who was really nice - he walked me through everything and what not, then he suddenly said %26quot;hold please%26quot; and was gone. So I did - I held on the phone for about 10 minutes or so. He came back on the phone and profusely apologized for the wait then said Sensei had walked in - you know. I told him nuff%26#039; said. No worries, we laughed and finished the order. Small thing, but it still makes me laugh.

Interesting and so-true quote from when asked about Aikido not being effective and practical Ikeda Shihan - %26quot;Aikido works, YOUR aikido doesn%26#039;t work.%26quot; Really sums up the whole argument nicely for me but that is a different topic. Don%26#039;t know the context or what brought about the question, but I don%26#039;t care - I just love that comment.|||Bugei.com

You can buy cheap stuff for around $50 but the stronger better made stuff is quite a bit more.|||Lots of cheap new gi%26#039;s on eBay. Just make sure the seller has a good rating.

Don%26#039;t spend more than $40 and don%26#039;t buy a Hakama even though women can wear them before Shodan (1st Degree/Dan Black Belt).

I would just buy a cheap white karate gi. It%26#039;s thin and light (you won%26#039;t be tugging on the gi like Judo so it%26#039;s okay). You just need it to last a couple of months anyway.

You don%26#039;t know yet if you will like Aikido enough to continue after the course so don%26#039;t waste your money on a good gi until you know it%26#039;s something you want to do for years.|||I have been happy with the equipment from e-bogu.com
