What is the meaning of the aikido logo?

The word %26quot;aikido%26quot; is formed of three kanji:

* 合 - ai - joining, harmonizing

* 気 - ki - spirit, life energy

* 道 - dō - way, path

It is often translated as: the Way of unifying (with) life energy, or as the Way of harmonious spirit|||Pepsimon... and Jack Lo have given you correct answers for the two most common logos utilized by aikido, however, in the calligraphy this one has from O%26#039;Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido, there is no dot in the center of the circle.

Sensei John Stevens, a student of O%26#039;Sensei and a current professor of Buddhist studies in Japan, has written extensively about the teachings of O%26#039;Sensei and these works are well worth the time to read as is the writing of Sensei Mitsugi Saotome and Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba, the founders son.

Be well.|||Are you talking about the brush painting of the circle with the dot in the center?

As explained by Morihei Ueshiba, it signifies perfect harmony and resolution of powers with continuous revolution, When a student first starts, his/her patterns are rough and linear. The movements of the student are somewhat circular but large. Over time, the student learns to move minimally and economically, thereby reducing that large circle to almost a dot - perfect harmony.
