Was wondering which is a more effective sytem for real self defense yoshinkan aikido or taekwondo?? i was thinking of doing one of these arts and take of boxing also.|||Yoshinkan aikido
I%26#039;d suggest
Best wishes :)***|||Ask the instructors to let you observe a sparring class as well as an instructional class. Being able to watch them in action will give you a better idea which one is for you. Also, you can use that as a filter. Instructors that don%26#039;t know what they%26#039;re doing, who aren%26#039;t at the same competitive level as real martial artists, and who are just trying to make a buck often will not let you observe a class or a sparing class without signing a contract.|||Taekwondo will be more effective in the short run, but aikido will be more effective in the long run. I%26#039;ve studied both of these and am currently training for my shodan (black belt) in aikido. Aikido takes MUCH longer to learn and will take a few years before an aikidoka will confident enough to use some of the techniques in a self-defense situation. Taekwondo is a nice offensive art, but if you%26#039;re attacked first, it%26#039;s not much use. Aikido is a defensive martial art. So while you don%26#039;t train on how to punch, kick, etc, you DO train on how to defend against all types of punches, kicks, grabs, take-downs, etc... Go with whichever martial art is more your style.|||Define what you mean by better, better how? There are no superior martial arts only arts that are by someone that is more knowledgeable. It always come down to the individual and who taught them, not the style.|||aikido,
minimal effort, your feet remain on the ground (it is incredibly easy to disarm someone trying a roundhouse at you)
the smallest masters of aikido expound very little effort effectively disabling any size or strength attacker.|||i know this is going to make a lot of people mad and some people are going to say im lying, but the truth is the truth. If you look way back in history tae kwon do was a sport like UFC. im not sayng that it is bad, but is just not a true martial art. try aikido, kung fu, karate, shaolin, or san chou. they have been there since the beginning and are the most knowlegeable. tae kwon do is for people that just want to learn the basics.|||If I had to pick one. I would go with TKD.
However, a lot of a martial art%26#039;s effectiveness depends on the situation. For example, if you are a cop, you don%26#039;t want to do all that striking and you need an art that will allow you to immobilize struggling people who you are trying to arrest. For this, Akido is great. Akido falls short when you face skilled punchers and kickers as it is difficult if not impossible to apply Akido against a good striker.|||It is your preference. Taekwondo does high kicks impractical for fighting situations, but good for show and a good workout. Aikido is much better.
If you want simple self defense, I suggest getting into Jujitsu. That%26#039;s the way to go. There are different kinds, so I would suggest you doing some research on what you would like best.|||tae kwon do|||aikido|||there is no such thing as a better/best, or worst martial art. It depends on the martial artist.
