How long does it usually take to get 1st Dan in Aikido?

It depends on if you have had any previous training in other arts. Hard to say|||It depends on where you go and how dedicated you are, just like any other martial art. At my place the average is 5-10 years because it%26#039;s more in-depth than karate, and I believe that aikido initially has a steeper learning curve. But, like I said, i%26#039;s like anything else- depends on your life circumstances and how intense you will or are able to train.|||If you are concerned than why bother. Go buy a belt at the sporting goods store and you can have it the same day. In most arts 1st Dan is just the beginning of learning.

Truthfully you should be concerned on the quality and content of your learning rather than the degree.|||In our style it would normally take at least 5 years, for Shodan, 1st degree black belt. meeting minimum requirements. Taking as long as 10-12 years would be unusual.|||10 - 12 Years for the average person.

If you%26#039;re really dedicated and are willing to give it 4 times a week continuously, it could be faster.
