What is the belt ranking system in aikido??

I have a yellow belt in aikido.|||Different schools have different ranking systems. Our school doesn%26#039;t start until 6th kyu (blue), 5th kyu (purple), 4th kyu (green), 3rd thru 1st kyu (brown) and then the Dan ranks.|||After 1st kyu comes shodan, also known as 1st degree black belt. After shodan the numbers go up again, to 2nd degree black belt (or nidan), then 3rd degree black belt (sandan), and so on. In our dojo adults don%26#039;t wear colored belts prior to black belt, except that 2nd kyu and 1st kyu students do wear brown belts.

For the children%26#039;s program, we extend the kyu ranks down to 11th kyu, (yellow stripe), through 10th kyu junior (yellow belt), then 10th kyu senior (yellow belt with orange stripe), and so on. The actual colors and ranks can be seen in the addendum that contains the various test requirements.|||I knew a guy that trained in a place that had only white or black belts, that was it.

I like that idea a lot. Rank is so relevant to your style and school that it is mostly useless.
