If I want to become a police officer, which is a better suited martial art: aikido or judo?

MMA is good, jujitsu is good. Especially traditional jujitsu because it has more standing arm bars and wrist locks.

Krav Maga is probably best for police work. There is a whole school of DT (Defensive Tactics) that is based on Krav. It%26#039;s very street oriented. MMA is limited in that regard, because its oriented towards a single, unarmed and highly trained opponent. In police work you deal with armed, semi or untrained people and gang members.

Aikido isn%26#039;t bad. Not excellent, but not bad. Again for the joint locks.

Wrestling and boxing are okay.

Karate, TKD and kung fu are all wastes of time for police work. Though better than nothing in terms of self defense, they just aren%26#039;t that street appicable. Kenpo, Kempo, Kaujukenbo and Hapkido are possible exceptions here.

But look for Krav or jujitsu or MMA. And tell them you want to be a cop.|||Jujitsu. The others are really limited. All are silly compared to Kung Fu.|||Aikido is too touchy feely for me. Too much finding energy and all that nonsense.

I like judo and as an extension Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I did both for awhile and am about to get started again.

Just find a martial art you like and stick with it. All have their strengths and weaknesses.|||Firearms training and the union lawyer on speed dial.|||Either one should be fine because they both involve using energy to throw someone to the floor. Just be good at either one and make sure you get some military training also.|||%26quot;Doughnut and coffee juggling%26quot; seem to be the most popular.|||Neither. They both may open you up for a lawsuit.

As a general rule, any use of force must be a technique trained by your department. If you use an untrained technique, and someone gets hurt, you could be sued.

There is a training principle called %26quot;not trained but justified%26quot;, but that would only apply as a last resort, not as a matter of practice.|||Neither.|||I would say aikido.|||Neither they will teach you what they want you to know in the Academy which is a mixed martial arts. After you become an officer your co workers let you know the good local place that work or they will have a good instructor that you can learn from.|||very simple question. the art you need most is common sense.you can have all trhe others. if you do not have common sense you will never last.
