Any suggestions of how to market an Aikido dojo in Virginia?

Just formed an Aikido fellowship (in Norfolk, Virginia) , and need suggestions as to how to %26quot;get the word out%26quot;. We hold classes in a church (non-denominational) , and are linked with Karate For Christ International. Got a basic web site set up (www.aikidofellowshp.com) . Besides the %26quot;yellow pages%26quot;, any ideas?|||Demonstrations, get together with local churches if that is the area you are going for.

Also try circulars in the Naval bases around there, and do as many public demonstrations as you can. Hell go to parks and favorite local hang out spots, set up and start going at it.

That would be my advice, best way is to get some people interested, then word of mouth starts to spread.|||Use a webpage, you%26#039;ll get better results then with just the yellow pages. Also you may wish to advertise at christian bookstores, etc...|||My Dojo is going through the same tasks...marketing our product. We polled our new-ish members and found that they found us via:

~1 Web Searches

~2 Community Education

~3 Word of Mouth

We%26#039;ve decided to go with a large web presence. This involves building a user friendly webpage (one that is easy to use for non-Aikido practicioners: ie minimal aikido jargon), using Google Local Business Center...,

www.google.com/local/

...and using Google Ad Words.

www.adwords.google.com/

We figure that the web and web based advertising is best (and least expensive) step for us at the moment.

If we can help the people interested in Aikido find us, the word of mouth referrals will come.
